Bose is one of the most popular and successful audio brands in the world, despite selling typically higher end more expensive products. Some argue that their speakers are typically overpriced for the specs they provide, and we’ve found this to be somewhat true. However, the Bose 251’s are definitely an exception to this. The 251’s bring massive power to the table while still being very reasonably priced. Keep reading for our full Bose 251 Review.
Power – These speakers have a 100 watt nominal operating power and a 200 watt peak power. This is the only 100+ watt set of outdoor speakers that we’ve found for under $500 dollars, so if you’re looking to get the best power possible. Unfortunately the Frequency Response Range isn’t specified, which was the only thing holding us back from giving this a perfect 10 out of 10 power rating.
Aesthetics & Style – These have a similar slick modern look like the Bose 151 SE’s do, and they also come in black or white.
Portability & Convenience – The 251’s are 8 x 5.75 x 13.5 and 8 pounds each, so they’re getting a bit on the bulky side, but still shouldn’t be that hard to move around or set up. They also come with the mounting hardware required to mount them, or rubber feet if you want to just prop them up somewhere.
Durability – These speakers, Like all Bose outdoor speaker products, are built to withstand the roughest weather conditions, specifically sun, water, high humidity, temperature extremes of -40 to 158 degrees (F), and even salt water spray, which can be a factor for beach side patios.
Warranty – All Bose outdoor speakers come with a 5 year warranty, so you can rest easy knowing the company definitely backs up its products.
Price – Bose speakers are arguably overpriced in some cases, but the 251’s in particular are a good deal for the amount of power and quality you get. If you’re willing to sink a little more to get a truly powerful outdoor sound system, the Bose 251’s are a great pick in our opinion.
Bottom Line – If you’re looking for a higher end, very powerful set of outdoor speakers then we highly recommend the Bose 251’s. This is the only 100+ watt set of speakers for the outdoors that we’ve found for under $500. Moreover, the reviews on Amazon.com are overwhelmingly positive. The fact that they are really built for extreme conditions and are also backed up by a 5 year warranty is also great.
