Acoustic Research produces a wide variety of wireless speakers, both indoor and outdoor, and the AWSBT1 is our favorite one, and is also one of our top overall picks for outdoor speakers. Nothing else on the market currently beats the AWSB1 in terms of portability, convenience, and price. Keep reading for our full Acoustic Research AWSBT1 Review. You can learn more about our outdoor speaker rating system here. Keep in mind our scoring system is slightly different for wireless speakers than it is for wired speakers.
Power: 6/10 – This speaker has a single tweeter and single sub woofer and operates at 5 watt nominal power. It also has an excellent frequency response range of 20 Hz – 20,000 Hz to ensure a full bodied sound with solid bass, something that is particularly important for the outdoors since lower frequency sound waves are more easily washed out when outside. This speaker is great for low key barbecues, pool parties, camping trips, or other similar things, but if you’re looking for a more permanent and powerful sound system for outdoor parties, you will probably want to consider permanent wired speakers with more power.
Aesthetics & Style: 4/5 – This speaker kind of looks like a retro air conditioner, but it’s hard to maintain aesthetics when building a product designed for outdoor durability or utility. One cool feature this speaker has is that you can place a custom sticker on it to represent your favorite sports team.
Portability & Convenience: 9.5/10 – When it comes to portability and convenience in an outdoor wireless speaker, the AWSBT1 takes the cake. it weighs only 3.9 pounds and has a built in handle for easy carrying. It even has an internal compartment to store your music device with a key that can lock it inside. The only slight downside is that you’ll have to worry about purchasing and carrying AA batteries separately. But, the speaker can be plugged in with an included AC adapter if an outlet is available. The ability for it to use AA batteries is great, though, for situations when an outlet isn’t available.
Durability: 4.5/5 – This speaker is fully weatherproof, with an exterior designed to withstand water, dust, and sunlight. The thick plastic casing also gives it the capacity to take a bit of a beating that might come with outdoor use.
Warranty: 3/5 – All Acoustic Research wireless speakers come with a 1 year warranty, which is a on the shorter side, but at least you know you can get it replaced if it’s defective.
Wireless Capabilities: 9/10 – This speaker is Bluetooth compatible with a 33 foot signal range, and also has a standard 3.5mm plug for non Bluetooth devices. The speaker is powered by 6 AA batteries with up to a 14 hour life per set of batteries, though, realistically this may change depending on the circumstances of it’s use, for example the volume or outside temperature. It also comes with an AC adapter if an outlet is available. It’s only distinct disadvantage to the TDK A33 (our favorite outdoor wireless speaker), is that it has less power and doesn’t come with a rechargeable battery. However, if you won’t have access to an outlet for several days, then the AWSBT1 might be a better choice because the TDK A33 battery needs an outlet to recharge every six hours.
Price: 9/10 – This speaker currently retails on Amazon.com for under $100 dollars, which for all the features you get is a great deal.
Amazon Average User Rating: 4.4/5 – you can read the Amazon.com reviews here.
Bottom Line – 8.2/10
When it comes to portability and convenience in a wireless outdoor speaker at a great price, the Acoustic Research AWSBT1 takes the cake, which is why it’s earned a spot in our overall top outdoor speakers.
